For me, Netflix finally coming to Canada a few years ago was pretty exciting. As a frequent business traveler, when in the US Netflix had become a staple in my life; firing up my laptop to watch a good flick on Netflix at the end of the day certainly beat paying for the very limited selection of films that today’s hotel had on offer, and was a heck of a lot cheaper as well. And when I went home, I really missed it. I paid for an account to use in the US but once I was back across the border it was inaccessible.
So, when Netflix Canada was announced I signed up right away. I quickly found however that Canadian Netflix had nowhere near the amount of content that the US version did, so I immediately felt jipped that I was paying for an extra account now and really getting very little for my money. Surely there had to be a way that I could still use my US account in Canada?
It took me months to find an answer – months in which very little new content was added to Netflix Canada – but I finally did, and it wasn’t expensive or complicated – a service called Blockless.
Blockless is a service that allows you to make a small change to the configuration of your computer, mobile device, TV box or even a gaming console that removes all of the location restrictions on your regular Internet connection and makes that connection a blockless one, allowing you to access all kinds of Internet content that would normally not be available to you as you live in ‘the wrong place’.
These days I only have one Netflix account that I can watch when home or away (yay!) and I also get to access some of the other great stuff I used to only be able to get in the US; Hulu, Pandora, the BBC iPlayer and Channel 4 from the UK and much more. One thing is for sure, I am never short of entertainment options wherever I might be.
Although it took me ages to discover the beauty of Blockless, that does not have to happen to you, because I made this little tutorial that shows you just how easy it really is to go global and get US Netflix in Canada (and much more.) Enjoy!
Blockless Step-by-Step Set Up:
Step 2) Once your Blockless account has been created it is time to set up the Blockless DNS #’s on your individual devices or router by selecting the “Set Up” Tab (second tab located at the top of page) and choose the guide that matches your device (Xbox, Apple TV, Roku, PC, Wii, MAC, PC, Smart TV, etc.). If you are unable to get your device set up on your own with these guides take advantage of their fantastic customer service by emailing them at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Step 3) Once the DNS set up is complete your Blockless status check should read 3 green checks (try to check the status bar on the device the service is set up on). When you receive the 3 green checks select the US region simulator from the Blockless account page, restart the device and the world of American Netflix in Canada is at your disposal.
Easy isn’t it?
